Swine Industry Symposium A Success
The Swine Industry Symposium, held on October 25-26, 2012, in Songjiang, Shanghai, was a huge success.
The Swine Industry Symposium, jointly organized by the American Society of Animal Scienceand Shanghai Gentech Industries Group, focuses on the theme of Nutrition, Efficiency and Value with the mission of purely providing education for the industry under the slogan: Integrating Worldwide Nutrition Technology, Driving China Pork Industry Innovation.
World-renowned Speakers, Authoritative Symposium
The president of American Society of Animal Science (ASAS), Dr. James Sartin and ASAS CEO Dr. Meghan Wulster-Radcliffe came all the way from the U.S. for this symposium, as presented by 8 prominent speakers: Dr. Guoyao Wu(Distinguished Professor of Texas A&M University), Dr. Brian J. Kerr (Research Leader/ Lead Scientist of USDA-Agricultural Research Service, Ames, Iowa, USA),Dr. Joy Campbell(R & D Director at American Protein Company), Dr. John Pluske (Director of the Animal Research Institute at Murdoch University), Dr. Bob Goodband (Professor/Extension Specialist at Animal Science & Industry of Kansas State University), Dr. Hans H. Stein (Professor of Animal Nutrition at the University of Illinois), Dr De Wu (Director of the Animal Nutrition Institute at Sichuan Agricultural University) and Dr. Ron Ball (Alberta Pork Producers’ Research Chair in Swine Nutrition, Canada), who shared their thought-provoking ideas about swine production. Therefore, this is an international authoritative academic symposium. And nearly 400 participants attended the symposium.
Practical Topics, Active Participation in Q & A Sessions
The attendees were treated to cutting-edge presentations and insights from the distinguished speakers. Each presentation finished with a Q & A session, which focused on the questions and concerns about the swine production from the attendees. The speakers answered a range of questions. Certainly, the symposium was enhanced by the active participation of the audience. Due to limited time, some questions were left without answers, but the speakers generally said they would like to discuss them after the symposium and more questions were welcomed. We received many positive comments about the topics presented. “All topics are deliberately designed to educate and inform the people involved in this industry. The knowledge gained in this symposium will be very helpful when communicating with our consumers. Great speakers, they are sharing different theoretical and practical technologies”, some attendees said. Indeed, the audience’s active participation suffices to show that the topics are inspiring and thought-provoking to Chinese swine production, in which there is still room for improvements.
Well-planned Symposium, Positive Reviews from Attendees
In order to accomplish the mission to educate with ASAS through the symposium, it is critical to ensure the symposium is well organized, planned and beneficial to the audience. The symposium had:
1. Attendee ID Scanners: Barcode badges must be scanned before entering and exiting the symposium venue to ensure the symposium runs smoothly.
2. Simultaneous Interpretation: The experienced and qualified simultaneous interpreters, selected from top interpreters in China, ensured the presentation consistency. And both organizers and interpreters have done prior preparations to address the interpreter’s deficiencies in knowledge and terminologies involved in swine industry. So, the attendees gave an overall positive feedback about it.
3. HD LED Display Screen: The organizers have used a 8m×5m LED screen instead of a commonly-used LCD projector screen, which ensures a clear view from anywhere in the venue, regardless where you sit.
The symposium is well organized and attractive, whether in terms of symposium program, venue or reception, etc. Furthermore, the invited speakers brought new knowledge, information and ideas to China, which will be truly beneficial to people who are involved in swine nutrition technology, marketing as well as management. It is just like what the president of Gentech Industries Group Mr. Jason Song inspired in the opening remarks:”Productivity will not increase if there are no knowledge inputs.”
Looking into the future, we sincerely hope the Swine Industry Symposium will be more and more productive.
